Famous Italian Writer Vittorio Messori, a Convert Himself, Speaks About Anglicanism

Vittorio Messori is one of the most famous catholic writers and journalist in Italy, writes editorials on Il Corriere della Sera. Among his books, the best sellers “Hypothesis on Jesus” (1976), “Crossing the Threshold of the Hope” (1994) with Pope John Paul II and “Hypothesis on Mary” (2005). Messori, who converted to catholicism in his late twenties, is the only one who interviewed two Popes, John Paul II and Benedictus XVI.

Messori also authored The Ratzinger Report, which was a huge best seller in the mid 1980s.  This interview here is poorly translated, but the common sense of it is refreshing amidst the babble of false ecumenism.

“Delayed Obedience Is Disobedience” Says Pro Soccer Player of His Call to the Priesthood

“I discerned, through prayer, that it was calling me to the Catholic Church. I do not want this call to pass me by.”

Hilgenbrinck accepted the calling on Monday when he left the New England Revolution and retired from professional soccer to enter a seminary, where he will spend the next six years studying theology and philosophy so he can be ordained as a Roman Catholic priest.

“It’s not that I’m ready to leave soccer. I still have a great passion for the game,” he said in a telephone interview. “I wouldn’t leave the game for just any other job. I’m moving on for the Lord. I want to do the will of the Lord, I want to do what he wants for me, not what I want to do for myself.”

House in Brazil Passes Bill Outlawing Criticism of Homosexual Acts

Is this the same Brazil whose Parliament rejected a bill legalizing abortion 33-0?  I am confused.  What is going on in this country?

Rio de Janeiro, Jul 15, 2008 / 01:36 pm (CNA).- The Brazilian Senate is considering a bill approved unanimously and without debate by the country’s House of Representatives that aims to promote homosexuality and prohibit Christian teaching on the issue, under the guise of combating discrimination.  More here.

Slain But Nobody Catches Him: 2.5 Million Should Cover the Trauma

Sorry, I couldn’t help posting this one from some site called The Smoking Gun.

JUNE 5–Last June, Matthew Lincoln was attending an evening service at his nondenominational Tennessee church when he approached the altar where a visiting minister was offering individual prayers for parishioners. Assigned “catchers” were present on the altar in case congregants fainted, fell, or otherwise lost control. When the minister, Robert Lavala, slightly touched his forehead, the Knoxville-area man “received the spirit and fell backwards.” Except nobody was there to catch him, Lincoln charges in a $2.5 million lawsuit filed yesterday against Lakewind Church and its pastors. Father Corapi: The U.S. Has a “Death Wish”

Father Corapi pulls no punches in this discerning article for Lifesite News.  Here is a clip.

“In recent years it took the form of a self-inflicted heart wound when some dissident Catholics rejected the teaching of the Church, a teaching that clearly held that artificial contraception is intrinsically evil.

Then, as Pope Paul VI had warned, it metastasized into abortion. From abortion it degenerated even further into partial-birth abortion. It was then a short and easy step to infanticide.

The exclamation point at the end of the death wish is that now there is yet another candidate for the office of president of the United States who has in an extraordinary way done everything possible to breathe life into all of the barbaric elements of the death wish.

He and his party make no apologies for their support of abortion, partial-birth abortion, and even infanticide. It’s hard to believe that we have degenerated to the point that we’ll murder a helpless baby should it escape the violence of an abortion and be born alive. Can a Catholic vote for such persons?”

Cardinal Pell Gives Challenging Homily to 150,000 in Australia

From news.com.au

“Speaking to the colourful crowd of pilgrims, waving flags from countries from around the world, Dr Pell told them that following Christ required struggle, sacrifice and self-discipline.

“Following Christ is not cost free, not always easy, because it requires struggling against what St Paul called ‘the flesh’ - old fat relentless egos, old fashioned selfishness,” he said in his homily.”  Full article here.

Another Catholic Journalist, Tony Snow, Dead at 53

Here is a clip from a speech he recently gave to the graduating class at Catholic University:

“But see, there’s more. Once you’ve gotten past the mirror phase, then things begin to get really interesting. You begin to confront the truly overwhelming question: Why am I here? And that begins to open up the whole universe, because it impels you to think like the child staring out at the starry night: “Who put the lights in the sky? Who put me here? Why?”

And pretty soon you are thinking about God. Don’t shrink from pondering God’s role in the universe or Christ’s. You see, it’s trendy to reject religious reflection as a grave offense against decency. That’s not only cowardly. That’s false. Faith and reason are knitted together in the human soul. So don’t leave home without either one. ”

ACTION ALERT: Massachusetts General Court to Consider Marriage Laws Evasion Bill

(CATHOLIC ACTION LEAGUE LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT, 13 JUL 2008) On Tuesday July 15, 2008, the Massachusetts State Senate is likely to vote on Senate Bill 800, AN ACT CONCERNING MARRIAGE LAWS, which would repeal a 1913 statute preventing out-of-state couples from marrying in the Commonwealth if their attempted marriage was illegal in their home state. This special interest legislation for the homosexual lobby will, if passed, turn the Bay State into a homosexual and lesbian version of Las Vegas. More significantly however, it will potentially inflict the dishonest and contrived Goodridge decision on every other state in the Union. As events in Massachusetts and California have demonstrated, homosexual activists prefer the battering ram of the courts to the ballot box of democracy. This measure will enable them to litigate in their home states, inviting state supreme court decisions which will invent a right to same gender marriage. If passed by the Senate on Tuesday, the repeal bill will be taken up by the House of Representatives later in the week.

Please call and/or e-mail both your state senator and your state representative on Monday, or before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, and strongly urge them to oppose Senate Bill 800!

You may call the main State House number (617) 722-2000 and ask for your legislator’s office, or click on the following links for their telephone numbers and e-mail addresses:

SENATE: http://www.mass.gov/legis/memmenus.htm

HOUSE: http://www.mass.gov/legis/memmenuh.htm

Here in Massachusetts, marriage has been deformed and the family has been redefined. The right of public school parents to control the moral education of their own children is being usurped. Boston Catholics have been deprived of church-based adoption services. If the homosexual agenda continues to advance, we may soon confront the conditions which prevail north of the border in Canada, where freedom of speech and freedom of religion are being directly imperiled. Please contact your legislators before Tuesday’s vote!

Pray For This Valiant Rabbi

Rabbi Yehuda Levin:

“Until the religious leaders totally take on the corrupt justices in the various countries, the corrupt courts, the corrupt political leaders and name them and prohibit voting for such people based on religious reasons…

- until this happens we are going to continue to see the other side taking unfair advantage and further polluting the culture and brainwashing a younger generation as to the basic standards of right and wrong.”  More here.

Rosary Credited in Rescue of Hostages in Colombia

This is an extremely encouraging news piece, a must read.  President Uribe in Colombia seems like another Garcia Moreno.

Bogotá, Jul 9, 2008 / 01:00 pm (CNA).- The recitation of the Rosary has become, for an increasing number of Colombians, the secret behind the new phase the country is entering.  Many Colombians also view the Rosary as the “secret weapon” that made the recent rescuing of 15 hostages possible - without a single shot fired. Hebrew Tablet Pre-dating Christ Tells of His Resurrection After Three Days

Jerusalem, Jul 9, 2008 / 01:14 am (CNA).- A tablet with messianic overtones reputedly from before the time of Christ has become a topic of debate in biblical and archaeological circles. While one scholar claims the find could “shake our basic view of Christianity,” a Catholic Professor of Scripture suggests the tablet is actually evidence for the historical probability of Christian belief.

The three-foot tall tablet bears 87 lines of Hebrew which speak of a messiah who will suffer and rise from the dead after three days. The tablet was probably found near the Dead Sea in Jordan and has been characterized as a “Dead Sea Scroll in Stone,” the International Herald-Tribune reports.

Jesse Helms Dies on July 4

From AP Report:

“His opposition to Communism defined his foreign policy views. He took a dim view of many arms control treaties, opposed Fidel Castro at every turn, and supported the contras in Nicaragua as well as the right-wing government of El Salvador. He opposed the Panama Canal treaties that President Carter pushed through a reluctant Senate in 1977. ” More here.

Just FYI, interesting data: Our second and third presidents, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on the same day in 1826.   That day was July 4.  Our fifth president, James Monroe, also died on July 4th.

Bishop Henry of Calgary Sends Strong Protest to Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach

Part of the letter decrying the rabid injustices of the gay activist legal patron reads:

“Each judgment emanating out of our various Human Rights Commissions seems to be more brazen and bizarre than the one that preceded it. However, for inane stupidity and gross miscarriage of justice our own Alberta Human Rights Tribunal deserves to take first prize for its treatment of Stephen Boissoin.

June 2008: The Alberta Human Rights Tribunal fined Stephen Boissoin, $5,000.”

Remarkable Conversion Story of New Bishop of Virgin Islands

Msgr. Herbert Bevard has had some great friends throughout his priesthood, friends who have helped him excel in one of the Church’s most needed apostolates: that of bringing non-Catholics into the Faith.
Who are these friends? Well first, there’s the Blessed Mother, to whom this former Protestant attributes his vocation.
Then, there’s St. Katharine Drexel whose great devotion to the Eucharist and life of service has been such an inspiration. Msgr. Bevard got to experience firsthand her great influence after spending five years as the chaplain for her order, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament.
Finally, there’s the Infant of Prague. It was the Infant of Prague who gave Msgr. Bevard great comfort as a child, when his parents refused to allow him to become Catholic.

Canada: Homosexualists Persecute Catholic Priest

Pete Vere, a canon lawyer, pro-life, and pro-family advocate in Canada, has just published an article in The Remnant, “Free Speech in Canada, RIP.” Mr. Vere summarizes the plight of Fr. Alphonse de Valk, a Basilian priest in Canada who is being persecuted on anti-Christian “hate crime” charges.

As you read this, be mindful that the radically anti-Catholic and anti-natural-law judicial activism going on in Canada is a prelude of things to come here in the U.S. Until Christ reigns as King here, we can look forward to this:

Fr. de Valk is the editor of Catholic Insight. This monthly journal promotes the Church’s traditional teaching on marriage and the family, speaking out strongly against contraception, divorce, abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality and other acts of immorality that have gained widespread acceptance in our day. During the political debate over so-called “same-sex marriage,” Father published several articles upholding marriage as God created it - both under the Natural Law, and as a sacrament. These articles quoted extensively from the Bible, papal encyclicals, and other sources of Catholic Tradition. The articles also quoted studies from reputable medical doctors and psychologists.

This is the “hate crime” for which Father is being investigated by Canada’s human rights commissions. Once the complaint is investigated, the commission will likely haul Father before one of Canada’s human rights tribunals. Technically, the tribunals operate at an arm’s length distance from the commissions, which take on a new role as legal prosecution for the complainant. In practicality, no accused has ever beaten the rap when brought before the tribunal by the commission.

The state pays the legal costs of the complainant, whereas the accused is responsible for his own legal fees. Not that a good legal defense really makes a difference anyway - the commissions have a 100 percent conviction rate when bringing a Christian before Canada’s human rights tribunals. In fact, they have a 100 percent conviction rate with every case they bring before the tribunal. Thus Father, who has already spent $20,000 on his legal defense, will be forced to appear before a tribunal of politically-correct government appointees who make up the rules as they go along. He is not even entitled to a public defender because the tribunals are not real courts, but quasi-judicial tribunals.

Yet if Father refuses to go along with this marsupial madness, he can be charged with contempt of court and face real jail time. All because he upheld Church teaching on something that nobody even questioned a generation ago, namely, that marriage is a union between one man and one woman.

So what can Fr. de Valk anticipate when he goes before Canada’s human rights tribunals? The answer is fourfold: 1) Thousands of dollars in fines; 2) An order to apologize to the homosexual activist who initiated the complaint against him; 3) An order to never again communicate the Church’s traditional teaching on moral issues - not only from the pulpit, but in the confessional as well; and 4) A prohibition from speaking out against the injustice of Canada’s “human rights” racket to which he was subjected.
